Sumner Rocks Village Street Party – December 12 2015 11am – 6pm

Tuesday, February 10th, 2015

Update 12Feb15.

Hi everyone,
Sadly we have had to postpone the Sumner Village Street Party this March.
Two days ago we received a notice from SCIRT to inform us that works on the wastewater pipes on Wakefield Ave was to be brought forward from April to the 24th February, lasting nine weeks and bringing traffic diversions, limited parking and the noise/disruption.
This not only implicates the Street Party but also comes at a time that that will negatively impact many businesses, given February and March is ‘high season’ in the Village particularly with international tourists. A good majority of us rely on the trade in these good months to get through the winter months.
We feel it is in our best interest to see if this timing can be shifted and to that end met with Fulton Hogan/SCIRT this morning to discuss what we can do. Their hands are tied it seems, we need to go straight to the top to see if they can move the works back to the proposed April/May – when the impact wont come as such a blow.
So, at this point we have picked our battle which puts the Street Party on the back burner, as we wont be sure of the outcome for some days.
A new date has been set for next summer – Sunday 6th December – A Christmas Street Party!
We hope that this date could work for everyone, it would be great to hear expressions of interest. Although no doubt we will be making contact again come October.

If you would like to support us in pushing these dates back, I would happily forward your emails to CERA and SCIRT.
Ruth Dyson, Nuk Korako and Paul Lonsdale have expressed their willingness to go into bat for us too.

Kind regards,
Kath Cross
